Ballet of the Slovak National Theatre, Bratislava:
Two / Murmuration / Entropy
TWO
Choreography: Lukáš Timuľak
In his new work TWO, Lukáš Timuľak, together with fashion designer Boris Haneček and composer Henry Vega, explores ways to combine the ideas of individuals in a synergy of creation. The dance of two dancers is an expression of connection, inseparability and forces that complement rather than oppose each other, forming a whole that is much more than the sum of its parts.
MURMURATION
Choreography: Edwaard Liang
Murmuration is a one-act dance impression that artistically reflects the natural phenomenon of flocks of migrating birds creating fascinating formations in the sky. This one-act ballet inspired by the natural spectacle was choreographed by Edwaard Liang and performed in 2013 with Houston Ballet. The choreographer’s ability to attractively capture the delicate relationship between choreography and music is a prerequisite for an exciting illusionistic experience. Edwaard Liang echoes the dynamics of the music with movement tension that replicates the energy of birds swooping down to the safety of the mass. The fluid movement of the choral text dissolves in the transience of the four short duets.
ENTROPY
Choreography: Craig Davidson
At the forefront of this ballet miniature is pure dance in its stripped-down form. The choreographic abstraction shows the almost limitless movement possibilities of the human body with a vocabulary that draws its elemental material primarily from classical dance technique, but gives it a 21st century flair. The sculptural movement weaves, full of dynamic changes and challenging coordination, reflect the choreographer’s experience as a member of the Royal Ballet of Flanders, Dresden Semper Opera and Lucerne Ballet in Switzerland, as well as his love of tap dance. The aesthetically appealing physicality materialized in the animalistic sculpture of the performers is at the forefront.
